to register for all programs * We group each drill by ability level. Only those going to the next age category
should move up. Exception: A 5-7 year old who can rally from the service line or an 8-10 who can rally (not just from a feed)
and serve from the baseline. All others should register in the same group. * There are no classes nor
rain make-up days on Fridays for June and July sessions. * Rising Stars should use an light, adult-size graphite
racket.
____________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Greg's Drill Coaching Philosophy Our drills are based on the "Games Approach"
method of teaching, learning how to PLAY first then fine-tuning stroke technique second. This is the model the USPTA and USTA
endorse to keep kids having fun and wanting to come back. I center our drills for the younger "stars" around developing
the ability to RALLY. Very short, slow swings are encouraged to accomplish this from first over the center service lines ("Two-Square
Tennis") then over the net from the service line ("Mini-Tennis"), and finally from the baseline. We do not
spend all of our time feeding balls to those standing in line, trying to develop perfect-looking strokes. This simply is not
practical if the goal again is to develop the ability to PLAY the game. Once they can rally from the baseline, stroke development
begins to be emphasized. As parents, you can help by getting your kids on the court with the primary goal of being able
to hit the ball back and forth. Do not worry about what the strokes look like (and no coaching to correct technique) so long
as they can keep a rally going. Emphasize short, slow and tight swings with quick feet. Over time the strokes will begin to
look more and more like those you see on t.v.!

JUNIOR MEMBER/GUEST
Date: TBD Players and their guests must be able to serve and play out doubles points. No charge

JUNIOR TENNIS TEAM To participate on the Junior Team, you must be able to serve and rally from the
baseline with some consistencey, volley and hit overheads, understand basic strategy for singles and doubles play and can
keep score.
Practices: Mondays & Wednesdays - First practice Monday, June 6(private schools)
and June 13(public schools) and ends August 5. No practice Monday, July 4. 1:00 - 2:00
Matches:
Fridays, 1:00 - 3:00
Match Schedule: *Many matches will be Away at larger court clubs to allow our numerous team members
a chance to play more.
Sign-up on the bulletin board in the
Tennis Shack by Wednesday before each week's match. The match location will be determined by that Wednesday as well and announced
at team practice and listed on the posted schedule. For Away matches, parents will be responsible for getting the players
to/from the site. We encourage players to take advantage of this great opportunity to improve your game through social
match play! There is a participation fee of $20/player or $50/family for the practices and matches. This money is retained
by the club to offset coaching fees.
* Those in the Rising Star (novice) practice from 1 - 2 pm should participate
in at least one of the June or July drill sessions. There is no stroke instruction during team practice, only match play with
positioning and strategy generally covered. It is important to have coaching on stroke technique to better prepare to play
matches!
* No advance sign-up is required to be on the tennis team; just show up for practices, and you are on
the team! However, you must sign-up for the matches each week.
2011 SPRING JUNIOR DRILLS Pro: TBD 4 week session,
May 2 - 25 (May 30, June 1 rain make-up days) Mondays and/or Wednesdays. You can pick one or both days. ages 8* - 11, 4:00 - 4:55, 8 player limit per class
ages 5 - 8*, 5:00 - 5:40, 6 player limit 1 day/wk/4 wk session = $40 / 2 days = $70.00 **SPTC non-members add $5 to session cost.**
(*If your 8 year old has previous tennis experience, register in the older group. For 8 year olds just beginning in tennis,
please register in the younger group.)
To register, simply email me back what days you would like to do. As noted
above, class size will be limited so register early. There must be at least 3 participants to run a class. When a class fills,
it will be posted on this page.
If it is raining too hard or the courts are too wet to play, your drill will be
rescheduled for the week after drills are over on the same day and time as your original class. Remember, clay courts absorb
water well so always call the instructor to see if the class is a go (class can be run during light rain!). If a drill is
halfway or more completed, there will be no rain make-up.
Don't forget parents...there are some Adult Camps in
May for you (with new evening sessions offered). Check out the details in the "Tennis Camps" area
