*You may still register manually, just print, complete and send in the Registration/Waiver Form with check made payable to HiersTennis.
Either way, I will email you a confirmation when I process your registration.
*Just a helpful hint: write down the days of the week and class you'd like to register for. The registration site will register you for one day and
ask if you'd like to add any days. If you are planning on doing more than one day a week then register for one day and then add more days.

Register early; class size is limited. There must be at least 3 participants to run a class. When a day fills, it will be posted on this page. If a class is full, email us so we can put your child on the waitlist. WE CAN NOT OFFER MAKE UPS FOR MISSED CLASSES DUE TO YOUR OWN SCHEDULING OR PERSONAL REASONS. THE ONLY MAKE UPS OFFERED ARE WEATHER RELATED. Our classes generally fill up and because we limit it to 8 kids there just isn't room to move days around after a class fills.

If you have registered and must cancel and it is 10 days or sooner before the drill begins a $25 administrative fee will be taken. If it is 5 days or less, refunds will not be given. We can always credit you to do another session. This is due to our limiting each class to only 8 participants. Classes fill fast, and people make other plans. If you cancel, it may be difficult for us to fill your spot on short notice.
**Remember to bring water as the fountain there may not be working. It is also recommended that a hat and sunscreen be worn.**

RAIN/WEATHER: If the weather is questionable, contact Mandy at     651-338-0690       If a drill is at least 1/2 done, there is no make-up. Drills can be done if it is just sprinkling. When it rains so much that the courts have puddles then we cancel. Rain/Weather make ups are done the same day & time as the class that was rained out (August 27, 28, 29, 30) (If you had a class rained out on a Tuesday at 11, then your make up would be Tuesday, August 28 at 11). If a class has more than one rain-out on a same day then we will add another day during the make ups. If the rain make up gets rained out too, there is not another day scheduled.

For general questions, email Joele at hierstennis@cs.com (preferred) or call 651-226-3286. (please don't ask Mandy scheduling questions, she is here to coach. I can help you with everything else.)

Summer Private/Semi-private Lessons:

 $40/hr.

This is a popular alternative to the drills. You can get together your own group of friends and schedule it according to your own schedule. Private lessons can be taken by up to 4 people at a time. For more than 4 participants, email me.

Private lessons must be paid in full before that particular lesson takes place. Our online registration and payment system allows you to pay for one, two, three or four lessons at a time. Or you may print off a registration form and mail it with a check or multiple checks which I will deposit one week before each lesson.  If you choose to pay online, email me first about dates and times. Once we establish a schedule you can register and pay online.

Available private lesson times for the summer: 8-9 am, 12-1 pm, 1-2 pm Monday thru Thursday and some evenings.  If you are looking for a different time, email me and I will check the coaches schedule.

Once days/times have been set, all future contacts regarding any rescheduling or rain make ups should be made directly through Mandy.
For questions regarding lesson scheduling, email Joele at hierstennis@cs.com.

Mandy OKeefe: (back for her 2nd year!!)
I have been playing competitive tennnis since I was 10 years old, and teaching tennis since junior high school and love it. I have lived in Stillwater most of my life, and I played tennis for the Ponies! For those of you who remember Ben #2, who coached a couple of years ago, he and I are good friends and have played tennis together for years. I'm really excited for the summer!

Our instructors have completed the Recreational Coaches and QuickStart Training Workshops and have been trained in the "Rally/Games" based approach to tennis teaching by Greg Hiers.

Our drills are taught based on the "Quick Start" and "Games Approach" method of teaching, learning how to PLAY first then fine-tuning stroke technique second. This is the model the USPTA and USTA endorse to keep kids having fun and wanting to come back. I center our drills for the younger "stars" around developing the ability to RALLY. Very short, slow swings are encouraged to accomplish this from first over the center service lines ("Two-Square Tennis") then over the net from the service line ("Mini-Tennis"), and finally from the baseline. We do not spend all of our time feeding balls to those standing in line, trying to develop perfect-looking strokes. This simply is not practical if the goal again is to develop the ability to PLAY the game. Once they can rally from the baseline, stroke development begins to be emphasized.
As parents, you can help by getting your kids on the court with the primary goal of being able to hit the ball back and forth. Do not worry so much about what the strokes look like (limit the coaching to correct technique) so long as they can keep a rally going. Emphasize short and slow swings with quick feet. Over time the strokes will begin to look more like the ones you see on TV!!
